The David Lyell Scholarship

The David Lyell Scholarship was set up in 2009 in memory of David Lyell, founder of Town & Country Fine Foods. David was a long time supporter of The Master Chefs of Great Britain and the association's aims to ensure that key skills are not lost to the industry and the provision of training opportunities for young chefs.

Paddy Lyell of Town & Country Fine Foods who specialise in products for the pastry chef was keen to maintain the companies relationship with the MCGB and produced the magnificent David Lyell Trophy which is presented to the winner.  The trophy is engraved with the winner's name and remains with the company on show at their offices whilst the winning chef does take home an engraved silver salver.

The competition is also supported by Barry Callebaut, Gourmet Classic and Villeroy & Boch who offer both produce and prizes to the competitors.

Competitors have to produce a classic souffle and a dessert of their choice and must use Barry Callebaut chocolate and one of Gourmet Classic's eau de vies or spiritis in one of their recipes.

The competition is open to young chefs aged 21 years and under.
