Clive spent his early years in catering in the Stockport and Manchester area before moving to Ettington Park, near Stratford upon Avon. This followed with time at the Lygon Arms, Broadway and Ockenden Manor, Cuckfield. In 1988 Clive and his wife Cathy (also a chef) opened The Old Forge in Storrington where they have been ever since. Several chefs who have trained with them have gone on to open their own restaurants or work in Michelin starred premises.
Clive also runs The Old Forge WineCellar, a company who operate in both the wholesale and retail areas of the wine trade.
Clive acts as a consultant on menus and wine lists as well as being involved in corporate and charity events. He also works with educational establishments on the training of young people and the structure of educational courses. He is a long standing member of The Master Chefs of Great Britain, an active committee member currently serving as Vice Chairman.
